The Idea
By day Maciej Nowakowski works in finance as an interest rate trader, but by night he is a self-taught amateur coder. Over the past few years, he has spent most of his free time learning to code. Starting with Ruby on Rails, he began working on a personal project and quickly realised that reactivity is a must, and Ruby on Rails did not match this criteria.
After scouring the Internet and doing a lot of research, he came across Meteor. Even though Maciej quickly gained a lot of knowledge searching for answers to tough questions on Google and Stack Overflow became a tedious process.
Maciej thought that he would benefit more from dedicated Meteor training, without the distractions of everyday life. Having a space where he could purely focus, together with like-minded people, on upskilling intrigued him. The idea of Meteor in Flip Flops was born: a week-long training boot camp where participants spend their time learning and coding together in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain.
